A philosophy professor of mine in University used to pose a question often to the class when speaking about great thinkers, innovators and creators throughout history. The question was: “Do you think that person said ‘Oh Well’ to themselves when things may not have worked out the way they wanted or did they ask ‘What If’ because they did not try?'” At the time it did not mean so much to me and my fellow classmates but over the years I began asking myself this very question.
Having regrets in life by not daring to do something that you really want to can be really painful. I have heard people (myself included) make up excuses of why something isn’t possible to try or to go do. Most likely out of fear of failure, judgement, lack of support and many many more excuses.
But what I have learned through my own experience and from others its comes down to one ultimate game changer – that is the Choices we make.
The choices we make no matter how small or big lead towards a specific direction of what we want to experience in life. This means taking responsibility of what we choose as well. Absolutely things happen along the way that are difficult and painful but it is even those moments we can learn a way to ask ourselves better questions and make different choices.
As you reflect upon 2015 have you said to yourself more often ‘Oh Wells’ or more ‘What ifs’? Are you wanting to shift that for 2016? It all begins in learning to make choices from a different perspective that can impact any area of your life.
