Being in the present moment is one of the biggest challenges for almost all of us.
We are more than likely worried about the future or rehashing our past. We try to predict and project what ‘might’ happen in the future. The truth is at that point we are already creating our future from that present moment of worry.
I received a book as a gift back in high school that first enlightened me to this concept of creating your future by what you are doing in the now. It was like a 100 page book that I breezed through in about an hour or two because I was so fascinated with the simplicity of this idea that thoughts create our reality. (I can’t remember the name of the book right now because I gifted it to a friend right away at the time but when I do I will post it.)
When I started applying the ideas and started becoming aware of what a chronic worrier I was; I knew it was time to try to shift my thinking to see if it would impact my feeling of stress and tension. I think it is a natural default for us to worry about things, but accessing a sense of deep trust and knowing is also available for us all the time. I wanted to discover how to recreate that feeling from within to gain balance, inspiration and peace.
What I learned from practicing being totally present in the moment over the years is that the state of your being absolutely determines how you feel and relate to life situations all the time.
For example if you are worried about not getting that promotion you so badly want and you obsessively worry and stress about it for weeks before the announcement – you will feel tense, maybe get a stomach ache or headache, develop insomnia, tell yourself all the reasons why it won’t work out for you…and so on. You will end up spending weeks not feeling well because you are predicting your future rather than staying presently calm, connected and energized in the moment. Is this the experience you want to have in your life?
Day to day; moment by moment we have the freedom to create the experience we want to have by knowing that every thought and action you take is aligned with what your purpose is and then letting it go. Daily practices and learnings can help you cultivate this sense of creation no matter where you are in your life in this moment.
