We have completed the first two months of year and it has been making changes.
Not just making changes but making drastic changes at the drop of a hat. One thing I realized during these shifts is that we get what I call ‘upgrades’.
It’s like we’re trucking along with life, going about our business, learning and basically just doing our thing and then – out of nowhere – something comes up. A block, a challenge or some sort of obstacle suddenly pops up, bringing our momentum to a grinding halt.
Imagine you’re driving your fast sports car and there’s a speed bump ahead.
You have two choices; you can either just fly right over it knowing that you’re probably going to damage your car or you can prepare for the bump in the road. If you choose the second option, you go over graciously over the speed bump and then increase your speed again.
I consider that an analogy of how our life goes. The speed bump that we come across, that’s our opportunity to upgrade. We can either pass it by very quickly, not really taking it in and causing damage in the process or we can slow down and prepare for it.
When we take the time to slow down and glide gracefully over our speed bumps, we open up ourselves and slow ourselves down in order to let the upgrades come in.
Recently, I was talking to a friend and he was telling me about how quickly things are moving in his life. For him, everything tends to happen at a dizzying speed. That’s just kind of his pace. Life can move as fast as you want it to and it can be ever-changing. If you can handle rapid change and you’re ready for it, life will deliver. Obviously, if it’s showing up in your life that way, you’re ready for it.
Even if you welcome accelerated change, take time to mentally slow down and pay attention to these shifts as they happen.
When we’re trying to push against change and force things to go the way we think they should, we’re causing damage not only to ourselves but also for those around us. We’re chaotically flying around in every direction like an inflated balloon without a knot in it.
These past weeks have been full of change for me. In the midst of the confusion and messiness, there has been a lot of fantastic developments and opportunities. I’ve had the opportunity to be interviewed on several different shows, I’ve been connecting with people about creating true health, my new monthly Aspire Membership program has been released and I’ve grown my private coaching practice all at the same time. It’s been a fantastic season of updates and upgrades for sure.
Oftentimes, clients and patients will ask me if I have anything new going on because I always appear calm and collected. From the outside looking in, it may look like my life is orderly and planned out with nothing out of place. In reality, nothing could be further from the truth.
We all have issues and obstacles. The difference is how you respond to them.
During this time of updates and upgrades, it’s been apparent to me that it’s time to reflect on what direction I’m going in and recalibrate. This time has been kind of a forced slowdown, a forced speed bump that I’ve been approaching for a couple of months now. I’ve had to go inward and check in with myself.
By going inward, we give ourselves a chance to do nothing. To be. To take the time to contemplate and dream.
This time ‘doing nothing’ can be so much more productive than getting out there and pushing against our progress. That long to-do list will always be there. But if you’re not taking the time to get centered and grounded in the middle of your upgrades, your life can feel like a jumbled mess longer than it needs to.
There is so much freedom in going inwards. By intentionally creating calm in the midst of chaos, you’re reducing your stress levels and get a higher perspective on the big picture.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a solution-oriented person. I am not advocating that you wallow in the jumble and confusion of your upgrade. One thing to keep in mind is that it doesn’t matter why a block or problem is there. What is absolutely essential is that you step back and look for the lessons.
Be aware of the opportunities in your problems. Every problem or conflict gives us an opportunity to expand and grow, learn something new, integrate new practices and change our perspective. By focusing on these aspects, the solution will come much faster and you’ll have the insights and awareness you’ve gained along the way.
Remember that everything serves a higher purpose.
Our challenges are here to raise our awareness, to wake us up to our own magnificence. A great mentor of mine has said this over and over for years and I’m just now really understanding the deeper meaning of it.
We all have to deal with the struggles and challenges that present themselves to us. That’s just part of the process. That’s life. That is what we are here to experience. You can expect to have fear and doubt. You can expect changes that are difficult and uncomfortable. Sometimes, you will go through intense changes alone, with no one around that understands what you’re going through. Sometimes, you will be surrounded by a whole network of people to support you in your growth.
Whenever you’re feeling like you’re in the fog, be there. Be there embracing it, give it a big hug, surrender to it. That’s what it takes to allow it to integrate. The more that we resist things, the more that we push things away. We attract it more of it by pushing against it until we embrace it, integrate it, and embody it.
The embodiment process is essential to anchoring a lot of these thoughts, ideas, and philosophies and integrating them so we can apply them into our everyday life.
Ask yourself, what exactly life is asking you to do right now?
Are you having some updates and upgrades? Do you need to slow down? Are there speed bumps ahead, or are you sitting on top of a speed bump? What’s happening for you? Take this time to reflect and consider the bigger picture.
This time of year is always lovely to reflect upon what’s been going on and consider our next stage of growth.
Spring is just around the corner and with that comes a new season of seeing our ideas, goals, and aspirations come to life. Imagine how chaotic it must feel for the seed planted in the earth right now. Sprouts are breaking through the protective shell and seeking sunlight for the first time. This growth wouldn’t be possible by staying ‘safe’, it’s only possible by rising up, growing and expanding. When you put your own personal growth in this light, it becomes the most natural thing in the world.
