Investing in yourself gives a new perspective on life. The term “self-development” usually refers to improving our skills, knowledge and abilities so you can get better jobs or make more money. But what if the key to a successful life is not out there – it’s inside of us?
How investing in yourself gives a New Perspective on life
The term “self-development” refers to a lifelong process of evolution through which a person both matures and expands their capacity for success. Investing in your self-development can give you a new perspective on life that will allow you to achieve success more easily.
When you invest your time into personal development, you are taking control of your life and the lives of those around you. Investing in yourself is like investing in real estate, the more you invest the more you’ll see returns.
What are some examples of investing in your own personal development?
How can you invest in your own personal development? You could take a class or workshop that stresses personal development. You can read books written about self-growth and personal development. You can also volunteer at a local homeless shelter, participate in a course on public speaking, find a mentor to guide you through your life’s journey, or take time to reflect on your priorities and personal values.
Investing in yourself is an investment that always pays dividends.
Taking good care of your physical health is a great example of investing in yourself and is an example of how to live well.
The benefits of self-care:
- You have more energy
- You are healthier
- You think with more clarity
- You get stronger
Create the time in your schedule to develop new skills
You have to invest time and energy in order to build more skills and to have more resilience during difficult times.
It’s one of the most important things you can do – it is essentially self-care.
Examples are:
- Getting more sleep
- Physically taking care of all aspects of your body
- Spending the time to schedule “personal time” every day – and reflect on your day in that time
- Listening to an inspirational podcast or reading a motivational book
First, you need to assess where you’re actually giving time to things that are positive. You need to see where you’re continuously learning.. keeping in mind that change is constant. It takes a growth mindset to realize this is a good thing and not a bad thing.
Don’t let yourself get bogged down into a fixed mindset – getting stuck is one of the biggest obstacles in terms of investing in yourself. If you stay stuck you do not grow, and you are essentially preventing yourself from moving forward.
Personal development and investing in yourself takes time and it takes a certain skill set.
Just like we reach out to experts while growing a business, in our personal life it is the same. By reaching out to a coach or mentor, you allow yourself to be open to receiving the guidance and advice you need in the moment. This raises our tendency towards success and acquiring a new skill set.
You might ask yourself.. Why is it so important to find the time to invest in yourself?
You might not even realize that it is time to make “You” a priority in your life. The first thing to do when you’re feeling overwhelmed or out of sorts, is make a list of things with which you can spend less time. What are your priorities and what is secondary?
Being able to identify what you don’t need in your life is the first step towards making bigger changes. Investing in ourselves is essentially self-care and will help us feel more empowered.
Investing in oneself also means that we have a growth mindset, not a fixed mindset. We need to be open to change and continually growing because this is how we progress. Investing in ourselves doesn’t just mean economic investments either – it’s an investment in our relationships, physical well-being, mental health, spiritual or religious beliefs, career, creativity or anything else that is important to us.
We all deserve the best life possible, and investing in ourselves is the first step to creating that life. Investing in yourself will make you feel more empowered because it gives us a feeling of self-value – which everyone deserves! Investing time into your own growth also means that you are capable of giving back to others as well.
Best,
