You may be going through a tough time right now. But, don’t worry. There are ways to make your find happiness in difficult times, even when you feel like everything is changing around you.
The only constant in life is change.
It’s an old saying that couldn’t be more true. Change can often feel like a difficult and scary thing to adapt to, but it doesn’t have to be so bad if you know how to handle the situation with some patience and strength. Sometimes we cannot control these changes because they take place in our lives – other times we CAN choose what happens next by taking action ourselves or accepting them as necessary for growth.
Regardless of whether you’re at peace when faced with adversity, there are ways one can make their own life happy again – even while going through difficult times.
Let’s talk about the most important thing first:
Acceptance: You can’t control what is happening in your life.
That may seem unfair, but by accepting, it will help with reducing your anxiety.
Take a few deep breaths and then ask yourself this question: What are some things I’m feeling really anxious or upset about? Is there anything I could do for myself to feel better right away?
Write down three steps on an index card or in your journal that you can refer to anytime you are faced with an upsetting event.
Next, take a step back and think over what is really upsetting to you.
What are some things that might help ease those emotions?
Maybe there’s something as simple as having tea or taking time for yourself; maybe it requires more effort like trying yoga classes or meditation practice. No matter how small the task may be, every step is a step towards your happiness.
Happiness starts from within.
It truly is an inside feeling that you have access to at any time. And once you can master accessing it, the less things happening in your outer world will affect how you feel- content and grounded with a sense of wholeness because more aspects are being taken into consideration than just what’s going on outside yourself – or rather, “out there.”
The Attitude of Gratitude: Once we start practicing gratitude for all the good qualities we do possess instead of subjecting ourselves to a case of comparisonitis (which can only lead to sorrow or emptiness), happiness follows suit.
What can you be grateful for?
Happiness is a choice.
When faced with difficult times or situations, it can be hard to think positive thoughts and act in ways that make you happy.
But happiness doesn’t just come on its own; we need to work on it. Remember every day offers us yet another opportunity – so why not wake up each morning determined to find joy?
Practice gratitude by giving thanks even when things seem bleak, live life from an attitude of abundance rather than scarcity (which will help keep your mind focused on the good stuff), and try replacing negative thoughts with contented ones like love or peace instead.
The key is that no matter what happens, or what tribulations tries to bring you down, happiness follows suit because it’s up to your choices on how you want to act during those trying times. And so with every day coming at us with more opportunities than any other time before: why not wake up each morning determined to find joy?
Every day is a new opportunity to make something of yourself. Let’s grab it with both hands and get out there.
Best,
Dr. Asha Prasad
