How can you live a healthy life? This is a very common question. It might be because we don’t know what we can do to live healthy or how to start living healthy.
What does it mean to live a healthy life?
When we talk about a healthy life we are talking not only about physical health but also about your spiritual, emotional and mental health. To be active, happy about life and thankful for what you have. This is what a healthy life actually looks like.
Simple Ways to Live a Healthy Life:
1. Find your source of motivation
The most important thing that needs to be done in order to start living a healthy life is by setting a goal that you are motivated enough to achieve. I would say, don’t aim too high. For example, if you are not getting up early in the morning regularly, try to get up in 5 minute earlier increments and slowly start to build towards your ideal wake up time. If you can get used to it gradually, think about what you will be able to achieve and how much easier it will become a habit.
2. Eating well
This is one of the most important things you can do to live a healthy life. Eating is closely related with our health and we should know what we eat and why we do it. Having a balanced diet, not only provides you with the energy that you need, but also all the micronutrients and vitamins that your body needs. Keep in mind that food is the fuel your body needs to function.
3. Exercising regularly
There is a reason doctors and other experts tell you how important exercise is. It can be difficult to start exercising at a later age. It does not have to be for a long time everyday. Remember to start small with actionable goals. For example if you can only do 15-minutes of running at the beginning, try to run 5 minutes more every time after exercising. Or if running is too hard, start with a 15 minute walk. Moving each day is the key.
4. Maintaining social relationships
It is important to maintain good interpersonal relationships in order to live a healthy life. Having close relationships with others can lower your stress level. Having a social support group of people around you is important. Humans are social creatures by nature. Having “your village” around you will help you live a healthier life. Some people have a larger social group and they thrive with that. Other people need a smaller social group. There is no perfect amount of relationships you can have. Think quality over quantity.
5. Believing in yourself
As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said “once we believe in ourselves, we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit”. Please believe in yourself and everything that you do and this can help you live a healthy and happy life. If you do not believe in yourself, who will?
6. Getting rid of all the unimportant and negative things
Trying to get rid of all the unimportant things in our lives enables us to focus more on what we need most in our lives. When we focus on bringing in more positive things into our life we will get more positivity. Removing some of the unimportant things in our life frees us up and we find we have more energy, clarity, and purpose.
7. Meditation
Meditation helps you focus on the present moment. It helps you not get caught up in what has happened or will happen tomorrow. It’s also an excellent time for self-reflection – taking some quiet moments each day can help us reflect more deeply about our lives overall. It can help improve your clairy, attention, focus and help you acquire a sense of connection and grounding. And it doesn’t have to be complicated. Start with the 3 minute meditation.
Don’t take leaps – small steps are best
Small steps are important when you are looking to start living a healthy life. You don’t want to dive in too deep or too quickly. The best way is to build your progress step-by-step. If you try to take on too much at one time you will almost immediately fail. This is just how our brains work and how humans are. Getting overwhelmed is one of the main reasons for failure.
Setting goals for living a healthy life
Step 1 – Outline your first goal and why do you want to achieve it – envision the feeling of getting that feeling of achieving it.
Step 2 – Mentally and emotionally what is happening – are you consuming too much negativity which is having a negative effect on your well-being
Step 3 – Work on one step at a time and don’t get overwhelmed by looking too far ahead. It will only make it harder to achieve your goals and confuse you.
Step 4 – Set a realistic time-frame where you can gain results from your actions and move on to another smaller step.
Step 5 – Put a reminder of that goal in a place that will trigger different emotions or feelings
The mind-body connection
As usual, your progress is based on how much you are willing to put into it, and you will definitely need a growth mindset if you want to live a healthy life.
Just like being addicted to sugar we can have too much negativity – therefore we need to ensure that we don’t allow ourselves to be controlled by negativity.
Tune into your body and feel the physical symptoms of feeling stress or negativity – this is our mind-body connection.
Take notes of how you feel in certain social situations to live a healthy life – when something is successful then build on it. If something fails, don’t be afraid to let it go.
